A funny thing happened to me today. I got in the truck to go to work, turned the key and… nothing. no solenoid click, no crank, no nothing.
After fiddling around, checking fuses, battery, and all the safety related things that would make the starter not engage, I called a tow truck.
The dealer called me late in the day to tell me that the wireless control module was toasted.
I went hunting around on the net and found out that there is a TSB for this issue.
Apparently the WCM lives behind the ignition switch and can be affected by static electricity discharge.
So, I guess the manufacturer expects you to discharge yourself before starting the vehicle. Preferably not through the ignition switch.
Owner's manual addendum.
Dealer accessories - Anti-static wrist strap option for winter operation.
Static electricity, it's not just for home electronics anymore!
