Laptop battery packs...
« on: August 10, 2017, 10:59:43 AM »
If anyone has any old laptops/laptop batteries they are not using, I would greatly appreciate you saving them...

They can be bad/not charge anymore...  I usually can get a few good battery cells from the pack...

If you have any, PM me and we can work out the details of pickup/drop-off...

Thanks so much!
George

I wish I had known.   I just threw out a couple of rechargeable drill packs that were getting weak.   There may have been a few cells in there that would still be okay.   I think there may still be an old laptop or two around here, but I'll have to do some digging.   Are you on a deadline?

No deadline...

The laptop batteries are lithium ion...  Many tool battery packs are NiCad...

Thanks for thinking of me...

So that means you are looking for Lithium Ion?

STaL,
Yes mainly lithium ion batteries...  I've butchered a few Ryobi "non working" lithium ion battery packs to get some cells also...

I've found that laptop battery packs are lithium ion...  3.7v or 4.2v individual cells are the best, but I'll take any...

Thanks for interest...

I have used Batteries Plus to rebuild my Drill batteries.  For an extra $5, they up grade to Lithium Ion.  total cost is about 1/2 or a little more than a new one.
Mac stuff, Sony HDR-F1HD AM/FM/HD tuner, Denon DRS 810 cassette, Denon CDR-W1500 CD recorder, Music Hall MMF-9 w/B&O MMC2, B & O 4002 w/B & O 20 CL, Revox A-77

Do you buy the cells from them or do they do the actual rebuild?

They do a turn key rebuild.  Take it home and plug it in.

George, I have a battery from a 9 yr old Mac laptop. It's swelling and causing the trackpad button to bind up. I was going to open it up to let it gas off. Prying the cover back isn't going well, so I'm just going to order a new battery. I'll set this on aside and get it over to you sometime if you want it.

Sean,
Thanks for thinking of me...  If you wanted to rebuild the battery pack, I probably have enough good batteries to spare...

Otherwise, I gladly help you with your "swelling!"  ;)
