Retiring soon. Time to clean out....
« on: November 17, 2020, 09:24:32 AM »
There are not many of us doing audio repair in the burgh and the number is about to go down again....the store up north is doing well, in fact, during plague its never been so busy and I just added another rock and roll vinyl collection but its pretty much on auto pilot till its gone then I am gone.

At my place in irwin, I built a room in my garage to house a train layout - a perfect old man hobby, but right now it is full of stacks of equipment.  I have a number of units that need complete rebuilds that I am not going to do...is there anyone starting out who will pick up the mantle?  who will want units for parts or practice or?

I envision still doing customer repairs on my time table so I will keep parts bins of well, parts but everything else is to go...

for example:  pioneer SX750, complete, but dark, in a case that needs work.  In my younger days I would fix it and perhaps make a case for it....as of right now, its worth more parting out just from the faceplate alone and knobs...

Any interest in getting into repair?  I have answered the ads on craigslist, but everyone just seems to be an estate buyer/clorox wiper - no interest in the internals....

I can pull out 4 units in carious states of not working or almost working or missing knobs etc that can go today, for the price of dinner at burger king for 2.....

Do you care if I part it out?   My daily driver is a QL-A7.   Just having an extra JVC headshell (assuming it still has the branded headshell) would be worth picking it up for me.

Are any of them working or nearly working linear trackers?   Or is one of the Fishers an MT-6225?   I have one of those that I really liked but it took a dive off my shelf and needs some love and a couple parts now.   If you happened to have one of those perhaps I could make one good unit from the two.   Even if it is similar era perhaps it could donate busted feet and dust cover.

ok here we go, sansui PD10 with intact cover, sansui PD15 with intact cover, fisher MT911A and MT953 and a sony something or other that needs a 12v feed as it was part of a monolith.  I was gonna grab one of the power supplies outta something else.  most have carts.  I think all the carts have needles.  one price (free) must take all of them - pitt area only.

I do have 1 linear tracker.  well thats not true, my technics SLJ2 is my DD, but I have a B&O 4002 record deck - needs the positioning belts and?  gimme what I paid for it and its yourn.  I may or maynot live long enuf to get to it  - they sell for 700-1000 restored but again, time and is the cart ok?

I might have some BSR movements coming soon as I purge!

I know how to fix the BSRs and I have published a fix I got from someone else I enhanced to overcome the tabs on technics cover that snap off.

Thanks for the offer but that B&O needs the special B&O cart, right?

What I mean is that I can't use a preferred cart.   I appreciate the offer but will pass.

ok someone from here came to look at the record deck, it has a grado cart in a p mount they cannot use...I have a couple pics of this but too large to post so Im not, I can xfer them phone to phone or email to an address.   $100 gets it.  you can restore it (needs all belts and likely PS rebuilt) or part it out.  dustcover intact and stays up.

soon to be added:  wollensack R2R (5 inch it appears)

FYI - I am the someone.  This is a very nice deck and with the P mount has considerably greater cartridge/stylus flexibility than when restricted to B&O carts.

I owned one of these in the 1980s (until movers accidentally trashed it). While sometimes criticized by those who are not fans of B&O, it is a remarkable piece of engineering and will track absolutely anything, in addition to being gorgeous.

I use B&O cartridges exclusively and am trying to replace the machine the movers broke.  Unfortunately, the parts needed to convert this decks tonearm back to original condition are unobtanium or ridiculously expensive.

It pained me to walk away from it, but I have too much gear already.
