Sansui 7000 and QS-800 - Pt 1

A friend dropped this off today - had been in storage at his basement for 15 years.  Receiver looks mint.  Will report later on sound.

It looks like the receiver is good all stereo at 70 wpc, and the quad happens through the outboard amp.  Still figuring it out. Interesting that the receiver came with both the instruction and the service manual in the box.

The only Quad receiver I ever saw was in college and it was my English prof's Harmon-Kardon. He thought it was great. Not much material was recorded in Quad though and the format died out. I believe I still have a Quad eight track!!! Bachman Turner Overdrive!!!

Man!  That stuff is really nice!  Has anybody used a Quad reciever as a 4 channel stereo setup?

The rear amp/quad synthetizer has a 'quad emulation' mode to derive quad from stereo - need to hook it up everything configure out if it is listenable. Will report!

The rear amp can also be used as a regular power amp with power meters (VU meters to be more accurate)

The 7000 is a very nice piece from the early 70's, I have had a couple of them over the years. Excellent sound, but a pain in the ass to work on.

Hey - any suggestions from the experts on how to treat the wood cabinets on these old receivers?  I do not want to do anything chemically that degrades the collectors value.  Is lint oil with a rag an ok approach? Pledge? The wood is in excelelnt shape - just want to clean it and maybe give it some satin sheen.

Howard's Restor-a-Finish works miracles (comes in all wood colors).  You just wipe it on and wipe it off.  Then follow with Howard's Feed-n-Wax.  Can be found at Home Depot.  Hides scratches and water spots like nobodies business.
