Hello Vintage Hi-fi
« on: October 26, 2010, 05:08:23 PM »
Hey guys, my name is Mike Wolfe and I have recently moved back to the Pittsburgh area. I am kind of a newb in the high end audio arena but I have really enjoyed listening to (and learning about) some of the remarkable speakers and electronics out there. I found Tom's shop with a quick google search a couple months ago and decided to stop by with a friend. Awesome shop Tom, and great music. I'd like to make it to the next geek meeting if I can.

My current system is VERY modest and I would like to upgrade in the near future. It includes Wharfedale Diamond 9.2s in cherry, a Yamaha HTR-5860, blue jean 10 AWG cables and GLS Audio locking bananas. My sources have only been digital (PS3) thus far, however, I am trying to steal my dads turntable.

Some of my favorite music includes The Band, The Black Keys, Bush, DMB, Dave & Tim, The Dodos, The Doors, Galactic, Iron & Wine, Leo Kottke, Nickle Creek, Phish, Radiohead, Rush, Rusted Root, Smashing Pumpkins, String Cheese Incident, Sublime, Talking Heads, Yonder Mountain String Band, and 311.

My other interests include cars, trucks, motorbikes, camping, fishing, guns, shooting and computers.

Thanks Guys, I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can.

Cheers,

Mike

Welcome!
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

Welcome to the club.  I am also relatively new.  This is a great group of guys.  I have not met an audio snob here yet.  As long as you like messing around with gear in the search of good sound and are willing to drink beer,  you are good.  I brought in a pair of EPIs I found in a dumpster and restored and I was not booted out,  so no fear of judging to worry about, I think.

I do recommend you show respect for Caver gear,  as Bob Carver is a (well deserved) audio God in this crowd. But all gear is welcomed, specially older stuff.

Anyone sensing I am off the mark, please correct me!
