Here's something you may have never seen
« on: February 05, 2011, 09:57:57 PM »
Bell and Howell console Hi-fi from 1957. Williamson type mono amp with tuner and preamp mounted to a board that slides into the console. Has a garrard rc-80 that needs a couple belts. Just had it repaired and the FM sounds really good. Preamp has a ton of EQ settings and the scope is really cool. Console has 2 twelves and a horn, but I don't know who makes them yet. Console is kind of ugly, so I may have a cabinet made for the electronics. Will take some pics of the entire  console when I get it back together.

I love that old shit! Stereo is always better, but the age trumps that! Great score.
I am confident that an SL-1200 is capable of outperforming turntables of much higher expense with minor modification.

I used some wire for an antenna in my basement garage and was surprised to have very good FM reception. AS good as my Fisher 500c. Still need a couple belts for the RC80 turntable, then what the heck am I going to do with it!

Lid on top opens for the turntable that I have out to replace the belts. Cabinet doors open to empty space for record storage. First post has the picture of the electronics, amp preamp and tuner. Mine is the model 1050. There were larger models  that had a tape recorder and timer and some had an extra amp to power an external speaker. In 1958 they were rebadged for Columbia. The cabinets were designed by Paul McCobb, famous mid-century furniture guy.

That is cool as he77. Can you imagine what the guy felt like that bought it new and set it up for the first time? It probably took up half his living room

Not sure what to do about the grill. It's like a cane or plastic weave and the paint or coloring has worn off on a lot of it. Should I paint it or leave it alone?

Still can't get over the FM tuner. Very sensitive and selective with no drift. Has an adjustable AFC dial.
