How many watts are you running?
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:13:45 AM »
This came out of discussions on the chatbox about what wattage everyone is using.  I thought it would be interesting to see the differences as it compares to efficient and non-efficient speakers.

My current main rig is a Dynaco ST-35 (35W total, EL84 quad) into Klipsch Cornwalls at +/- 17.5 watts a channel.  Enough power through 98.5/m efficiency speakers to drive me out of the room and make my old wood framed house shake with the bass if and when I so desire.
preamp: BAT VK-5
amp: Altec 944sa
DAC:  Bel Canto 2.5
CDP: Pioneer Elite DV-47a
Intel NUC server / iFi micro iUSB3.0 / Roon
Spendor FL9

Emotiva xpa-200 @150watts, right now doing Polk RT35's with a Polk PSW10 (I think).  They will be on the block come fall, and back to the Fourier 6's, unless a good deal shows it's face.

I should mention that the WPC are soon to increase dramatically once I finish resto-modding the Velodyne that Jim gave me (thanks again Jim!).   There are a few changes coming, all of which I will chronicle here.

But 30 watts have kept me more or less content for the last five years or so.   I guess that is my point.

I'm bi-amping my Legacy's right now with 305's, which is 330watts @ 4ohms on the top, and a 2.0t which is doing 600watts @ 4ohms on the bottom.

I suppose a better title to this thread would be "How many watts are you capable of running?"
